You Are Memory

As a faded memory comes to an end,
With another prayer to God I send,
A smile yet to be beat,
Your beauty like a rare antherium is quite a feat.

There you are, in your blue dress,
Your hair cascading into a mess.
I watched your pink lips say, “Your Handsome”,
And felt my body quickly go numb.

Stumbling forward, remembering what mom told me,
Without thinking, I mumbled a, "Your pretty",
As words could not describe you,
That much is true.

I couldn't say what I felt at the time,
As they say we didn’t know how love feels like.
Still, seven years later, I cannot fully say,
The way I felt when I saw you in your dress that one fateful day.

We were so young and pure,
My memory fades as time passes I’m sure,
I want to tell you how I felt in my memory,
But you seem to still be my best story.

I remember your smile, even your name,
I remember the words that I said, the very same,
I remember everything, even when I cried,
But do you remember? Right now…tonight?

Well, I have three sources of inspiration that helped me write this poem. The first and foremost is my memory. This memory is so meaningful to me, I doubt I'll ever forget it, even as little details here and there are lost to me. She was a special girl, let me tell you. This memory is seven years old, happened in May/June of 2002, cannot remember just when.

The second source is this picture by Patrick Vath, its an Antherium. So inspired I was of it, that I even made a reference to this picture in the poem. This picture was also taken in 2002, the exact year when my memory takes place. Here's the link:

Then my third and final inspiration was the song Remenissions by Avenged Sevenfold. Actually, it's a certain part of the song, this part that is the most inspirational:

A good friend once told me, you are our memory,
Without them we equal nothing!
All I can see, is a place I want to be,
Suddenly my life was so free.

I don't know, but those four lines, just propelled me forward. You can call me crazy, and maybe I am. Well, have a happy New Years, and enjoy the poem! I think it's a great poem for me to upload on New Years, maybe it's a sign? ;)
